Overview:

We are delighted that Menisha Manhota has joined Barker Brettell as a Trainee Patent Attorney reporting to Lucy Trueman. Before joining Barker Brettell, Menisha worked in the biotechnology industry for 2 years gaining invaluable experience. During this time, she worked as an analytical research and development chemist discovering on breath biomarkers for non-invasive testing to improve early disease detection and precision medicine. Prior to this she completed a PhD in Chemistry at University of Birmingham with an integrated Master’s in Physical Sciences for Healthcare. This saw an interdisciplinary approach to tackling and preventing issues related to dental health using nanotechnology. Before that, she received a Masters’ degree in Drug Discovery and Medicinal Chemistry, during which she has built invaluable experience from industrial experts who taught modules related to intellectual property in the pharmaceutical industry.

Menisha works mainly in the chemistry and life sciences sector. She is involved with the preparation, filing and prosecution of patent applications at both the European Patent Office and UKIPO.

 

Experience:

  • Holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Birmingham working on an interdisciplinary research project developing nanoparticles for drug delivery of antibiotics to treat dental infections. Collaborating with the School of Chemistry, Dentistry, and Metallurgy and Materials and external start-up companies.
  • Involved in various studies in-house, academic, clinical and pharma research partners providing  in-depth mass spectroscopy and gas chromatography analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) over a two-year period at a Cambridge-based biotechnology company. This included discovering on breath biomarkers for diseases, as well as working alongside engineers developing medical devices for breath sampling.
  • Other research projects have explored enzyme responsive nanomaterials as antimicrobial agents, supramolecular metal complexes for Ramen mapping in ovarian cancer cells and metal complexes for medical imaging.
