Eggciting launch for Barker Brettell client

Barker Brettell’s food & drink client the New Egg Company has recently launched Yowk ® (http://www.yowk.co.uk/) – a highly innovative take on an old favourite – the boiled egg, resulting in extensive newspaper and TV coverage.  Yowk’s patent pending production process and patent pending innovative packaging design aims to prepare a perfect soft boiled egg every time.

With a pre-cooked egg, ready-prepared soldiers and a Spooth ® utensil – a combination of a spoon and a tooth to crack the egg – all that’s required is to add boiling water to the pot to achieve an instant breakfast.

Working closely with Yowk’s team – spearheaded by Managing Director Ian Hetherington and Technical Director Ian Taylor – from conception to realisation, Barker Brettell advised on a thorough and best practice IP strategy to ensure the product is protected by a strong suite of rights.  As well as pending international patent applications, the packaging is covered by registered design rights and the overall brand, logo and marketing slogan is subject to multinational trade mark protection.

Catherine Wiseman worked on the trade mark protection, whilst John Lawrence assisted by Neil Kilpatrick advised the client on patents and designs.

Senior partner John said: “I wish the team at Yowk ® every success. They have scored an IP hat-trick – patents applied for, packaging designs registered and trade marks secured.  This level of IP protection will ensure they don’t “fall fowl” of copycat inventors trying to steal a march on their invention.”
