Barker Brettell make successful defence of charity quiz crown
Barker Brettell retained their title as trivia champions of the Midlands last night at the annual charity quiz hosted by Leamington Spa-based legal practice Wright Hassall.
This year’s event was held at the Chesford Grange Hotel in Kenilworth and was attended by over thirty teams from local businesses, including accountants, chartered surveyors and banks.
The winning team, ‘The IP Crowd’, made up of patent and trade mark attorneys Yvonne Johnson, David Harris, Catherine Wiseman and Lucy Holloway, together with our Wright Hassall host Pete Maguire, narrowly took victory by a single point margin, after a thrilling final round in which points were deducted for wrong answers as well as being gained for correct responses.
The much sought-after ‘Wright Hassall Shield’ therefore will be returning to Barker Brettell’s Birmingham offices for another year. To top off a successful night, two raffle prizes were also won by the lucky team.
Yvonne Johnson, partner, said “It was a great team effort to retain the shield but credit has to go to Pete for his knowledge of key events from 1995, such as Robbie Williams leaving Take That, and for solving the ‘Guess the Sportsperson’ anagram for Fernando Torres right at the very last minute of the round to give us that winning edge. As always, it was a really fun and well-organised event and it’s brilliant that over £3100 has been raised for charity.”
100% of the quiz entry fees, and all funds raised by ticket sales for the raffle on the night, are going to the Wright Hassall Charitable Trust, which supports local good causes.
