Barker Brettell and Smallfry to repeat successful seminar
On Friday 22 March we hosted an event entitled “Maximising your Return on Investment from a Good Idea”. This free-to-attend breakfast seminar was organised jointly with Warwickshire-based industrial design firm Smallfry and was designed to help local businesses and entrepreneurs look at how good design can transform an innovative idea into a market-leading product and how to stay ahead of the competitive pack.
Steve May-Russell of Smallfry gave an entertaining and informative presentation in which he explained how to choose the right product to commercialise and the role of design in creating a market-leading product.
Nick Braddon provided expert advice on how obtaining legal protection for your innovative product designs can help preserve your competitive advantage.
The event was very well attended, despite the snow, and feedback on the day was extremely positive.
Lawrence Davis of Green Planet UK Ltd said “Very good talk indeed and I met several very useful contacts – well worth attending”.
Luke Porter, CEO of Rebound Box, a company making football training aids, said “I learned a lot for my next generation product and wish I had this level of proactive advice from all my advisors. Two hours well spent”.
John Lawrence, Senior Partner of Barker Brettell LLP commented “The turnout today was excellent and the feedback has been hugely positive – I am glad Smallfry could help us help our clients in this way. We would encourage those that could unfortunately not make it to get in touch with us so that we can explore their needs for assistance on this hugely significant matter further with them”.
He also mentioned “Next on the horizon is Patent Box – free money for UK companies via a 10% tax rate for profits on patented products. Actions, as well as words, from the Government in supporting UK research and development”.
In view of the success of this event about designs, we will be running the seminar again on Friday 24 May 2013, with Smallfry hosting at their offices in Coventry. To register your interest in attending this event, please email birminghamadmin@barkerbrettell.co.uk.
